Health Care American Style

America has become a land of the sick and weak. Was it inevitable? Or has it been orchestrated by those who seek to make money off of our weakness?

When I was a kid, President Johnson was trying to make America's children stronger and more healthy. I remember taking tests to see how many push-ups and sit-ups I could do and taking the tests again at the end of the year to determine if I had improved. Do our children do that today?

When I was a kid, few people had health insurance. If we got sick, we expected to get well. We didn't think we needed a doctor's permission to be healthy.

We had very few fast-food restaurants when I was a kid. We also had very few obese children in my youth.

What has happened? Parents don't know about nutrition or don't care what their children eat. Fast-food restaurants abound. Children are being given drugs to make them sit still in class instead of having them run to the point of exhaustion so they have to sit still in class. Children are obese from eating junk and lack of exercise. Money is made.

Parents don't seem to understand that children will naturally get sick and naturally get well, usually without a prescription. Doctors don't teach that the doctor within does the healing. Instead, advertisements and public service announcements tell us that health comes from vaccinations and pills. Money is made.

Grandma and grandpa go to the doctors for mammograms, prostate exams, cholesterol screening, colonoscopies, blood pressure tests, the list goes on and on. Instead of dying from the feared diseases, medicine is the third leading cause of death. Money is made.

It is time to turn back time. It is time to realize that health comes from within. It is time take responsibility for our own health and well-being. Is it time to keep the money we make.

Health care American style is based in rugged individualism. It is your body. It is your life. Take charge and take control.
